FAQ

Why study music at home?

Taking lessons at home is simply more comfortable and convenient for the whole family. Many families are busy and don’t have time to take their children out to a music school and wait around for the lessons to end. With Spark, teachers show up at the student’s home once per week to provide high quality and convenient lessons.

What styles of music or genres do you teach?

Absolutely everything! We believe that students will learn best when they are learning through the kind of music that they enjoy. One of the cool things about learning music is that most concepts/techniques that you learn are universal and can be applied across all styles of music. Our program allows for maximum flexibility and our teachers always customize their program to meet the needs of each student.

What can I do to help my child with their music lessons?

Parental involvement in music lessons is very important and being involved in your children’s musical experience is a great way to bond with your child. We believe that parents should take an active role in encouraging their children to practice and explore music on a regular basis. Some things that parents can do include:

  • Asking your child to share what they are learning with the family.
  • Talking to your child about music and how music has impacted your life and theirs.
  • Sharing your favorite music with your child and having your child share theirs with you.
  • Learning a musical instrument yourself. You may learn the same instrument or a different one that allows you to ‘jam’ with your child.
  • Co-writing songs with your child. Often parents will help their children compose lyrics and melodies.
  • Simply being supportive and showing your children that you are proud of what they are doing.

Can I learn with my child?

Yes! Learning music together can be a great way for parents to bond with their children and is very beneficial for the child.

Do you offer bi-weekly lessons?

Yes, part of our mission at Spark Music is to accommodate different learning needs, schedules and the diverse time commitment desired by our students and their families. If you choose to take bi-weekly lessons; consider taking 1-hour lessons every other week which would allow students to go deeper and provide them with that much more to work on in-between meeting with their teacher.

Do you offer group lessons?

Yes. Contact us for details.

What is your cancelation policy?

We require that you give us 24 hours notice for any cancelation. You may only cancel once a month. If you do not give 24 hours or cancel more than once a month you will be charged for that lesson and will not be given an opportunity for a make up lesson. Makeup lessons depend on the availability of the teacher. We have these policies in place to be fair to our teachers who are very much in demand with busy schedules.

Where in the home will the lesson take place?

We prefer that the lessons take place in an open area of the home. Our teachers prefer not to teach in children’s bedrooms unless a parent or guardian is present.

How do I know that I can trust the person who is coming to my home?

We perform criminal background checks on all of our teachers. We are confident that our teachers will always be professional and respectful.

Can I leave my child home alone with the teacher?

Children under the age of 14 must have a parent or guardian present in the home during lessons. Our teachers prefer that young children not be left home alone with them.

How do I pay for lessons?

Payment happens online through our easy to use booking a payment system.

Are there any administration or cancelation fees?

Nope. What you see in the rates section is exactly what you pay.

Is there any long-term commitment? Can I cancel at anytime?

There are no long-tern commitments and no contracts. You may cancel at anytime but you must give 24 hours notice before a lesson or you will be charged for that lesson.
